Peak resin production isn't just visible — it's aromatic. How to use your nose alongside the loupe for more consistent harvest windows.
The loupe is the standard tool for harvest timing, and it works. But the loupe alone misses something — the aromatic dimension of trichome maturity that a trained nose can read as reliably as any visual indicator.
Terpenes are volatile. As resin production peaks and trichomes mature, the aromatic profile shifts in predictable ways. The sharp, green notes of early flower give way to the fully developed profile of the cultivar — and then, if you push past that peak, the top notes begin to fade as the more volatile terpenes oxidize.
That fade is usually your signal that you've waited too long. The loupe will show you amber. Your nose will have told you three to five days earlier.
